ASDSP is financed jointly by the Government of Kenya (GOK) and Government of Sweden (GOS). The programme is in tandem with the Kenya Government’s commitments to the agricultural sector through the Agricultural Sector Development Strategy (ASDS) and the Kenya Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) Compact.
The goal of the ASDSP is to transform Kenya’s agricultural sector into an innovative, commercially oriented, competitive and modern industry that will contribute to poverty reduction, improved food security and equity in rural and urban Kenya.
The development objective for the Programme is: ‘increased and equitable incomes, employment and improved food security of the target groups as a result of improved production and productivity in the rural smallholder farm and off-farm sector.’ The major components for ASDSP are sector coordination, environmental resilience and social inclusion as well as value chain development.
ASDSP is implemented in 47 counties and at national level. The Programme has no particular geographical focus in the counties, but focuses on selected value-chains (VC) and related groups and organizations. ASDSP supports the development of 29 prioritized value chains.
